Telekinesis – Telekinesis!
Telekinesis is the work of an embarrassingly talented 22-year-old drummer turned singer/songwriter – Michael Benjamin Lerner. He has created a fantastic debut album of soaring and sunny guitar pop gems under the tutelage of Death Cab’s Chris Walla, who produced, mixed and engineered the recording. The sessions were equally spontaneous – with each song tracked and mixed in a single day – and authentic, with Lerner playing pretty much all the instruments laid down direct onto analogue tape. The songs are buoyed with infectiously rousing choruses and filled out with ringing guitars and buzzing riffs, echoing the best of bygone eras of classic power pop, but without the traditionally dopey subject matter. A cracker.
